Alnwick Lodge No.1167
Our members are of all ages and cover a broad range of professional backgrounds and interests. One thing that we all have in common is our love of Freemasonry and a belief that Freemasonry should be fun. While we take our Freemasonry seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. We are particularly proud of our work for charity in the local community as well as at the national level.

We meet on the first Wednesday of each month (except January and September) and our Installation meeting is in November. Meetings usually start at 7pm and we dine afterwards. The bar will be open before the meeting and (of course) afterwards.

History
Alnwick Lodge 1167 can boast one of the oldest surviving sets of minute books of any Lodge in England, dating back to 1701, but because of irregular attendance and lack of support the Lodge closed in 1824.

However the Lodge re-formed in 1867 when Grand Lodge issued a new Warrant and the Lodge was consecrated on 25th October 1867. It has continued holding meetings regularly since then and we held our 150th anniversary celebration in September 2017.

Notable Members
In 1869, Henry George, Earl Percy, was installed as Worshipful Master of Alnwick Lodge at our October meeting. In 1870 he was appointed Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland. Earl Percy eventually became 7th Duke of Northumberland and his other duties obliged him to curtail his extensive Masonic activities.

In November 1885, Sir Edward Grey (later Viscount Grey of Falloden) was elected a joining member. He became the longest serving Foreign Secretary in British history and it was he who made the famous comment in 1914 - "The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime". He was a member of Alnwick Lodge for 18 years.
